Back on the road today. It was long, but good day. We made it to our first stop without any issues. And even thought the day was terribly exciting, the kids still enjoyed the activities and prompts in their travel journal. It definitely feels good to be traveling again. We are all excited about visiting new states, adding stamps to our National Parks Passport and getting more Junior Ranger badges.
We got an early start, about 6 AM. The kids stirred a bit when we got started, but slept until about 8:30 AM. That’s way better than usual. Elyssa was the first one awake and she was beaming with excitement and asked if she could look out the window. She looked so cute observing the new sights.
I drove Beatrix! She is a big girl, but that isn’t what made me nervous. We caught the tail end of a storm cell that had extremely dark clouds. I was so tense. If you know me, you know that I don’t enjoy driving, and definitely not in inclement weather. I did and was tense the entire time. Thankfully we weren't on any interstates, so I wasn't making too many people mad driving like a grandma. It makes me appreciate, even more, all the driving did for us last year.
We settled in for the evening, ate some spaghetti, and watched Get Smart. I'm not sure if any of you remember this show, but is terribly amusing and wildly not politically correct. The kids found the slapstick style comedy funny and the "cone of silence" hilarious. We had a great first day and are looking forward to the rest of this trip.
